Developmental Writing Lab Conferencing Website: Coordinated by Andrea Shanklin, this is actually two sites where both students and teachers may go for valuable information on lab conferencing techniques, especially in reference to the developmental writing classes. These websites offer conferencing materials that are useful in the writing labs and Walk-in lab. The addresses for these sites are the following:
http://www.howardcc.edu/english/devwriting/powerpoint_student
http://www.howardcc.edu/english/devwriting/powerpoint_teacher
HCC’s Library: Instructors are strongly encouraged to make an appointment with Nina McHale (phone: 410-772-4633) in the HCC library to find out the wide range of services and resources available. For example, if you need to place videos or articles on reserve, the library can do that for you. The library staff also offers classes for your students to learn about doing various types of research through the library. Their excellent website is located at http://library.howardcc.edu.
English lab: Students who need additional lab time can go to the Composition and Literature Center in ILB 210. All of the software for the course is available on the computers in that room. English teachers are available to help students revise and improve papers. Please encourage your students to use the resources in this room before they hand in formal written assignments. Some instructors require that a written assignment be reviewed in the English lab before it is turned in. Please tell students that this is not a proofreading service, nor will instructors make any corrections on student papers.
