We have come to the final writing assignment of the course and the final step of the research component—writing the documented essay.
Do this:
ü Make sure that you have an effective introduction—which mentions the work that has inspired your paper
ü Make sure that your thesis takes a stand—argues why either the work you have chosen or the subject matter of the work “matters”
ü Make sure that you have dealt with your opposition (those who might say the work or the subject matter is not important) using either charge answer format or a rebuttal paragraph
ü Make sure that you have incorporated source material
ü Make sure that most of the writing reflects your own ideas—supported by sources—and that you have not merely strung a number of sources together
ü Make sure that you have used direct quotes only where they are most effective and relied on paraphrase and summary in other instances
