Annotated Bibliography Assignment

Grade %:

The annotated source page is part of  the documented research paper and counts in that 30% grade.

Due Dates:

The annotated source page should be submitted at the end of your research paper; however, a rough draft of that page should be submitted earlier on Monday 4/28 for participation points and an instructor review of format.

Purpose:

We have included this assignment in order to:

ü      Organize sources

ü      Familiarize ourselves with research and documentation procedures

ü      Practice MLA documentation

Prompt:

We have recently looked at parenthetical source citation and a model source cited page. Now you have an opportunity to compose your source page and have it checked for correctness before you submit it for grading as a part of the documented research assignment.  Do this:

  1. Find a minimum of 5 sources that support the working thesis of your research paper—one of these sources should be our text—another should be the source you chose to evaluate for the last assignment—you will need at least one more source for your author and/or literary selection, as well as, at least two more sources concerned with the subject matter or theme reflected in the poem or short story you have chosen.
  2. Once you have located a minimum of 5 relevant sources, begin to compose your source page.
  3. Check pages 1620-1636 in your text—model citations for a number of different types of sources.
  4. Use alphabetical order for your source page—like the model on p. 1636.
  5. Unlike the modeled source page in our text, your source page must be annotated—this means that you will write a short (several sentence) summary for each source—simply double space after the citation, and type your short annotation.
  6. Remember to get the URL for any on-line sources you are using—remember that you can use books, journals and personal interviews etc. in addition to on-line research—remember to check the validity of each source—most of all, remember that you will need a print-out or copy of every source that you include!  Papers submitted without sources will not be considered for grading.
