Mid-Term Exam/In-Class Essay

Format:

ü      MLA  style heading

ü      5-6 paragraphs

ü      12 pt. font

ü      Double space—no extra spacing between paragraphs

 

Purpose:

ü      To draft and revise an essay in class

ü      To write an argument paper

 

Prompt:

Today, you will be given:

ü      This instruction sheet

ü      A test disk

ü      Your portfolio—with instructor comments—but without a grade

 

Your job is to argue for the grade you deserve based on your portfolio.  Your paper should display:

ü      Professional presentation—including heading and title

ü      An introduction with a hook, transitional sentences and thesis statement

ü      Developed paragraphs with unity and coherence

Unity = specific details/examples that fit the thesis

Coherence = organization with topic sentences and transition

ü      Argument format =charge/answer or a rebuttal paragraph

ü      A conclusion that has a “so what”

 

Procedure:

ü      Clear your work area

ü      Take a test disk—record the letterof the disk in the heading of your paper

ü      As you compose your essay, save often on the test disk to avoid losing work

ü      Print out and submit a printed copy of your final draft and  any rough drafts that you printed and corrected

ü      Resubmit your portfolios for grading

ü      Remember to return the disk
