Prompt:

The first chapter of your text introduces the concept of literature. Later chapters will focus on argument and research—the two main topics of our course. In chapter two, you will read about using definition in argument.

Our first brief essay (2 typed, double spaced pages) asks you to define literature.

Use ideas from the text along with YOUR OWN IDEAS.

Using ideas from the text requires a source citation. You can read about MLA (Modern Language Association) format beginning on p. 1619 of your text. I will provide you below with a model citation for this first assignment.
